Cameroon has deep governance problems, particularly in the areas of government accountability, the civil service, government oversight (such as auditing), and business licensing. Whistleblower protections are generally ineffective. In Cameroon, lack of citizen access to financial records undercuts the value of disclosure laws. While there is some legislation requiring asset disclosure by members of the legislature, the judiciary and heads of government, citizens have no legal right to access any of these records.
